Menemen’in dondurucu ayazında İdadik aracını bekliyorum. Otomobildeki termometre 2,5 derece gösteriyordu. Otobüs geldiğinde içeri attım kendimi. İçerideki sıcacık hava ve arkadaşlarımın “Günaydın” diyen gülümseyen yüzleri kışı yaza çevirdi anında!
Bugün 10 konuğumuz ile toplam 31 kişiyiz. Program, Aigai Antik Kenti gezilecek ve 6 km de yürüyüş yapılacak şeklinde duyurulmuştu. Sabah Apollon Tapınağı kalıntılarına gideceğiz, öğleden sonra Aigai’yi gezeceğiz.
Aigai Antik Kenti, Manisa’nın Yunusemre ilçesine bağlı Yuntdağköseler köyüne 2 km mesafedeki Gün Tepesi’nde. Köyü geçtikten sonra Tapınağa gitmek için planladığım rotanın başlangıcında araçtan indik. Gruba programı söyledim ve çevreyi kısaca tanıttıktan sonra etkinliğe başladık.
Grubun kondisyonu oldukça heterojen olduğundan yürüyüş temposunu kontrollü tutarak arazide yükselmeye başladık. Önümüzdeki sırta ulaştıktan sonra birkaç mesken yerleşimleri boyunca toprak yoldan ilerleyip, bölgedeki antik kentleri birbirine bağlayan tarihi taş yola indik. Burada gruba, bu antik yolun kutsal yol olmadığını ama devamında bizi Apollon Tapınağı’na ulaştıracağını anlattım.
Antik yol binlerce yılın talanına karşın gene de oldukça iyi kalmış. Eski bir değirmen kalıntısına gelince yoldan ayrılıp dere tarafına doğru ağaçlı bölgeye girdik. Birkaç adım sonra, tapınağın çevreye dağılmış halde duran sütun taşlarına ulaştık.
Apollon Tapınağı hakkında çok kısa bilgi aktardım ve kalıntılarının önündeki yeşil alanda birlikte fotoğraf çekildik. Şu anda tapınağın sadece giriş kapısının iki sütunu ayakta durmaktadır. Bölgeye 25 sene önce ilk defa geldiğimde, bu sütunların üzerindeki alın taşı yerinde duruyordu.
Apollon Tapınağı dönüş rotasına Kocaçay Deresi kenarından başladım. Devamında tekrar antik yola girdik ve sonrasında hep yoldan hafif hafif yükselerek yürüdük. Biraz önce hemen kenarından geçtiğimiz dere iyice aşağılarda kaldı. Hafifçe kendini gösteren güneş ışınları ile pırıldıyarak ve şu anda bize oldukça uzak gibi duran Aigai kentinin bulunduğu Gün Tepesi çevresindeki vadilerde kıvrılarak akıyordu.
Aigai nekropol alanına girince öğleden önceki son nefeslenme duruşunda biraraya geldik. Sonra hepbirlikte öğle molası yapacağımız antik kent otopark tesislerine girdik.
Öğleden sonraki programa göre Aigai kentini gezeceğiz. Önce şehir planı levhasının önünde kısaca konuştuk, sonra şehre ulaşan antik yola girip nekropol alanını bitirdik. Oldukça geniş taş caddeleri yürüyüp Kuzey Hamamı istinat duvarlarının depremlere dayanıklılığını konuştuk. Yeni Kapı Girişi’ni geçip, Demir Kapı’ya çıktık. Devamında Kent Meclisi önünde Helenistik tiyatro orkestra alanı hakkında muhabbeti yaptık. Kazılardan çeyrek asır önce burada Meclis’in sadece en yukarıdaki bir oturma sırasının ucu toprak üstünde gözüküyordu. Şimdi ise neredeyse tamamının bütün olarak ortaya çıkarılmış olmasına duyduğum sevinci ifade ettim.
Artık şehrin üst düzlüğündeyiz. Sarnıç’ın bulunduğu bölgeyi geçip öbür tarafa sarkan Agora yapısına yöneldik. Dağın bu tarafını birer pencere ile gören sadece 4 dükkan var en alt sırada. Üstteki 2 katın en üstündeki mekanlar, görkemli sütunlarla şehir tarafına yönelik olarak dizilmişler. Agora’nın önünde Macellan denilen, tahminen balık müzayedesi yapılan daire şeklindeki taş havuzun, taa Dumanlıdağ zirvelerine kadar sıralanan tepelere hakim manzarayı seyretmek için yapılmadığı çok belli.
Kentin Gimnazyum ve Tiyatro’suna ulaşmak için uzunca bir yürüyüş yaptık. Tiyatronun kaveası tamamen yokedilmiş ama, Güney giriş yapısı bütün görkemiyle ayaktaydı. Burada İdadik flaması ile hep birlikte fotoğraf çekildik. Sonra Tiyatro’nun en üstüne kadar çıkıp, şimdilerde Athena Tapınağı olduğu varsayılan bölgeye günün son tırmanışını yaptık. Bundan sonra Yuntdağköseler tarafının muhteşem manzarasını seyrederek Aigai antik kentinin çevresindeki turu tamamlayıp, başlangıçta girdiğimiz Demir Kapı’dan çıktık. Devamında üçer beşer gruplar halinde kenti terkederek otoparka geldik.
Aigai Bekçisi Yaşar’ın teklifine olumlu yanıt verip, köyün kahvehanesini açtırdık. Ayran çay içtik, tereyağı bal satınaldı. Sonrasında, doyurucu bir etkinlik yapmanın verdiği keyifle İzmir’e doğru yol aldık.

İDADİK AIGAI TEMPLE OF APOLLON EVENT – 5 January 2019
I am waiting for the İdadik vehicle in the freezing frosty of Menemen. The thermometer in the car showed 2.5 degrees. When the bus came, I threw myself in. The warm atmosphere inside and the smiling faces of my friends saying “Good morning” turned the winter into summer!
Today, we are 31 people with 10 guests. The program was announced as to visit the Aigai Ancient City and walk 6 km. In the morning we will go to the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, in the afternoon we will visit Aigai.
Aigai Ancient City is located on Gün Hill, 2 km from Yuntdağköseler village of Yunusemre district of Manisa. After passing the village, we got off the car at the beginning of the route I planned to go to the Temple. I told the group the program and started the activity after briefly introducing the environment.
Since the condition of the group is quite heterogeneous, we started to rise in the field by keeping the walking pace in check. After reaching the ridge next, we went down the dirt road through several residential settlements and descended on the historical stone road linking ancient cities in the region. Here I told the group that this ancient road was not a sacred road, but it would later lead us to the Temple of Apollo.
Despite the pillage of thousands of years, the ancient road still remained pretty good. When we came to the ruins of an old mill, we left the road and entered the tree-lined area towards the side of the stream. A few steps later, we reached the pillars of the temple, scattered around.
I gave very brief information about the Temple of Apollo and we took pictures together in the green area in front of the ruins. Currently, only two columns of the entrance door of the temple are standing. When I first came to the area 25 years ago, the front stone on these pillars was in place.
I started the return route of the Temple of Apollo from the edge of Kocaçay Creek. Then we went back to the ancient road, and then we always walked up the road slightly. The stream that we passed just a little while ago was well below. It flowed twinkling with the rays of the sun that showed itself lightly and curving in the valleys around Gün Hill, where the city of Aigai, which seems to be quite distant to us now.
When we entered the Aigai necropolis area, we got together in the last breathing posture before noon. Then we entered the ancient city parking facilities where we will have a lunch break together.
According to the afternoon schedule, we will visit the city of Aigai. We first talked briefly in front of the city plan sign, then we entered the ancient road reaching the city and finished the necropolis area. We walked quite wide stone streets and talked about the resistance of the North Bath retaining walls to earthquakes. We passed the New Door Entrance and went up to the Iron Gate. We then talked about the Hellenistic theater orchestra area in front of the City Council. A quarter of a century before the excavations, only the top of a sitting row of the Assembly appeared above the ground. Now I have expressed my joy that almost all of them have been revealed as a whole.
We are now on the upper level of the city. We crossed the region where the cistern was located and headed for the Agora building, which hung over the other side. There are only 4 shops that see this side of the mountain with a window. The spaces at the top of the upper 2 floors are lined up towards the city side with magnificent columns. It is obvious that the circle-shaped stone pool, called Magellan in front of the Agora, where the fish auction was made, was not made to watch the view overlooking the hills ranging up to the summits of Dumanlıdağ.
We took a long walk to reach the city’s Gimnasium and Theater. The theater’s cave was completely destroyed, but the southern entrance structure was standing in all its glory. Here we took photos together with the İdadik pennant. Then we climbed to the top of the Theater and made the last climb of the day to the region, which is now considered to be the Temple of Athena. After that, we watched the magnificent view of Yuntdağköseler side and completed the tour around the ancient city of Aigai, and left the Iron Gate we entered at the beginning. Then we left the city in groups of three and five and came to the parking lot.
We responded positively to Aigai Keeper Yaşar’s offer and opened the village coffee shop. We drank ayran tea, bought butter and honey. Afterwards, we traveled to İzmir with the pleasure of having a satisfying event.
