FROM EMİRALEM TO GÖKKAYA (25 October 2020)

In this event, as Petkim Trek, in our second walk of the new season, we reached the starting point with our own cars in accordance with the new arrangement and we finished at the same point at the end of the event. Our program was to climb from Emiralem to Gökkaya. We are 8 friends together today: Zafer, Gökhan, Erbil, Demirhan and Canan, Faruk and his wife and me.

It’s a beautiful and sunny day. I can even say that it was so sunny; and especially in the afternoon the weather was quite high compared to the season. When the activity was over, I finished my water for the first time in a long time.

Firstly, after meeting at Emiralem Train Station Cafe in the area called Old Emiralem, we parked our cars at a point close to DSI Lake. It was 9:05 when we started walking on the slopes to the left of the valley rising to Gökkaya, which is not seen from here yet. Here and even higher, we had to continue mainly on fire routes. It took exactly 3 hours to climb the uppermost RES road without losing altitude.

We walked on the RES road for a while at the this region, then we curled towards Gökkaya from a suitable location. t was 12:40 when we had a lunch break at a spot near the fountain in the picnic area under Gökkaya, where our national flag was waving at the top.

After resting for an hour, this time we continued to descend in the west direction by drawing a curve from the roads going north from the left side of the valley we came from earlier. Although we walked fast always on the roads, for a long time DSI Lake was seen very far, depressingly.

When we finally got to our cars at around 16:30, I noticed that we walked a total of 17.5 km in 7.5 hours. I admit that I was feeling quite tired, and after saying goodbye to my friends, I stayed in my car for a while and drank some beverages I bought from Zafer Bufe, which has the same name as our guide. I even thought of continuing with the beer, then I gave up immediately and decided to drink at home while resting.
